Why do we look up at the Earth from the Moon?

Felicia the Space Hipster asks:

If we always look up to the moon why do we look up at earth from the moon? Be nice now lol

Felicia,

Thanks for asking.

We don’t always look up. Sometimes we look sideways. We would look down at other times except that neither the Earth nor the Moon are transparent so we would just see dirt.

If I am in Minnesota and someone else is in China and we both look at the moon, I might look up while the Chinese person stares at dirt. So it’s not which planet I’m standing on, but where the thing is I want to look at. That’s Science.
