What to do in a Flash Flood

In case of flash floods, find someone tall to keep your head above water.

With all the rain we’ve been getting lately, reader Sam Hill of Maple Plain worries about the possibility of flash floods.

What is a flash flood, exactly, and what should I do if there is one?

Flash floods are so called because water is shiny. Wear sunglasses to avoid sun-blindness from the flashy water.

In case the water is over your head, find a tall person to climb up on.

The most serious danger in any kind of flood is that your cell phone, music player, or handheld computer games will be ruined. Clothes will dry out and so will you, but protect your electronics by keeping them in plastic zipper bags, or they’ll never work properly again.
